Invest in important aircraft supplies

Friday, August 28th, 2009

After getting your pilots’ license, make sure to get all the aircraft supplies in order. These are very important for a safe and secure flight. For all kinds of aviation supplies, either you can visit any aviation supply shop which stores all pilot supplies or if there are none in your area, then you even have the option of finding any kind of aircraft supplies online. Headsets, handheld receivers, GPS, aeronautical charts, tools, training textbooks, landing gear components, and complete range of pilot gear; you can find many things to choose from. If your budget does not allow you to buy a lot, then invest in something which is very important, like headset for example. Another absolute must is an aviation GPS. Many planes have in built GPS but not all. GPS or global positioning system is a valuable tool in case of trouble. it is very useful when the weather is bad or you venture into some unknown area. Garmin is a quality name in Aviation GPS and there are many models to choose from. Depending on the budget and features that you desire, you can invest in a good GPS.

Apart from these supplies, it is also very important to carry aircraft maintenance kits. Flashlight, tools, screw kit; and various other aircraft maintenance supplies come in very handy when there is a sudden problem which needs immediate repair.

Monsoon no time for tourists? Lure honeymooners, say experts

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Winter is the time when international tourists flock to India in their thousands, and in summer domestic tourists travel in droves to cooler climes. But monsoon tourism, sadly, has no takers. Or, is it? Honeymooners could possibly be lured to those wet places for that clingy feeling, experts say.

At a national seminar on monsoon tourism here Friday, experts said that monsoon has not taken off because most people feel “rains spoil a holiday and not make it”.

An alternative was promoting it among honeymooning couples.

Himmat Anand, founder of the Tree of Life Resort and Spa, said that promoting monsoon tourism in India as a broad-based subject was a bad idea.

“Even when you look at the brochures of travel companies abroad, you will see that it is clearly mentioned that holidays are planned to avoid rainy weather. And then of course, we have all these cases of landslides in the mountains during the monsoon and people drowning on the beachside. Therefore, promoting monsoon tourism should be done carefully,” he added.

According to Anand, the market for monsoon tourism lies in the domestic tourists.

“We are more comfortable with the rains than people in Europe or the US. Therefore promoting monsoon tourism among the domestic travellers would be better, before venturing out of the country,” he said.

Anand said that if honeymooning couples, who more often than not plan their holidays during the winters, can be convinced to postpone their honeymoon to the monsoon, it will be a great deal done.

“Honeymooners make for a big market and if they can be convinced to honeymoon during the rains, nothing like it. Other niche products like ayurveda, which Kerala promotes, can be used to promote the season since the body responds to the treatment better during the monsoon,” he said.

Apurv Kumar, chairman of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Rajasthan State Council, said that safety of tourists and connectivity are the two main challenges.

“During monsoon roads here simply break down. Proper connectivity is very important in order to promote monsoon tourism. Also safety should be the topmost concern,” Kumar said.

In 2007, the number of international tourists visiting India between the months of November-January were the highest ranging between 51,0987-53,2088.

Renting a hotel room for 2, but having 4 stay in it?

Me and some friends, all 18 and 19, are going to be spending Saturday night in downtown Toronto and will be staying at one of the hotels, probably the Strathcona.

Now I’m an honest guy and hate doing stuff like this, but the rooms are so damned expensive everywhere in the city that they want to book a room that has a limit of 2 adults and have all 4 of us stay in there, sneaking the other 2 in.

I don’t really agree with it because the room will be rented in my name using my credit card probably, and I am worried that if they were to find out, I would get charged even more which would suck.

What could they do if they found 4 of us in a room with a limit of 2 adults?

Any suggestions on how to avoid being found?

As long as you aren’t partying making too much noise and trashing the place and it isn’t a dozen people there - then they probably wont find out, and if they did find only 4 people there - then they are likely to charge you 2x the extra person fee. I have seen some hotels who have a regular problem have signs that say an extra $50 fee if caught, but those are rare, and I get the feeling places that have trouble with parties and/or hookers. So look for the fine print. Again, if you are a good/polite hotel customer, you should work out fine.

I don’t like to do it either, but have had people crash from time to time for a hotel stay.

——

Most hotels will let you have four; you just have to pay about $10 extra per person per night. Call (anonymously) before you get there and ask to be sure; that way, you won’t feel guilty for nothing!

Kayla - what kind of hotel do you work in that locks the outside doors and checks people? I’ve travelled around the world and never heard of this! Sounds kind of sketchy! Maybe a hostel, but not a proper hotel.

As long as you are quiet and don’t disturb anyone you won’t be caught. There are usually extra towels at most hotels anyway, so you shouldn’t have to worry about that. Make sure you put the ‘do not disturb sign’ on the door so the maid doesn’t walk in on you at 7am. And if you do get caught in the morning, just say the extra guys came over to visit and got too drunk to drive home late at night. Seriously, how would the hotel ever know?

What identification is currently needed to cross Canada/USA border by car or bus?

If I was going by car or shuttle bus, would just my passport suffice to cross from Windsor to Detroit? Or would they still want my license and/or birth certificate?

I lost my driver’s license card when my wallet got stolen…I have a temporary paper one but the actual new card is still in the mail…

Yet again, people spouting of incorrect information about the laws. Geez, why do people feel the need to spread mis-information.

Ok here ya go: by car or bus right now (travelling either direction across the border) you will be required to show Government issued ID (such as a driver’s licence) AND proof of citizenship (such as birth certificate).
OR you can just show a passport. So if you have one, YES it will work perfectly fine all on it’s own.

This goes for all border crossings between Canada and the US.

Passport will be required in June 2009…if the law doesn’t get pushed back yet again. (except for air travel, then it is 100% required). The quote a previous poster shows is taken out of context and is for what the new laws WILL be. I love when people don’t read the whole thing *insert eye roll*

However, update. There is a pilot program in BC to accept BC DL again ( http://icbc.com/ ). Currently piloted with 500 BC license holders. This “MAY” become permanent in time for the 2009 deadline.
